Rabesolo / Brassart / Hounnou

Nàmàkàlà, a group based in Brussels

Rabesolo / Brassart / Hounnou presents Nàmàkàlà.
The group was born from the meeting of a Malagasy musician and a Belgian musician, both trained in jazz but passionate about the traditional music of West Africa. Their approach is to explore these Mandinka repertoires, rich in history, emotion, and context, and to create a dialogue between jazz improvisation and the colors of their own cultures.

The contribution of Beninese drummer Josaphat Hounnou enriches their rhythmic universe and opens up new sound perspectives. This alchemy takes shape in original compositions where African influences and jazz language intertwine, in a spirit of openness and encounter.

In Malinke, Nàmàkàlà means "to unite people so they understand each other": this is also one of the roles of griots, and the group's raison d'être. For music, beyond borders, can be a tool for mediation between people and their emotions, between cultures and histories. Each concert then becomes a journey where African rhythms, timeless melodies, and lively improvisations, with a single goal: to connect people through music.
