Zouratié Koné Trio

Zouratié Koné, the griot.

The Afro Jazz Mandingue Ensemble is based on the figure of Griot Zouratié Koné, leader of the group, from Burkina Faso, a master percussionist, singer, composer, and maker of musical instruments.

From an oral tradition, this outstanding musician knows hundreds of different rhythms from Burkina Faso, Senegal, the Ivory Coast, Niger, Mali, and Guinea, as well as numerous traditional chants.

He adapted several dozen African rhythms and modes to compose the instrumental pieces for the project, paying particular attention to groove and harmonization, thus achieving a very successful transcontinental fusion.

The compositional work carried out by the Burkinabé Zouratié Koné is based on the use of traditional African rhythms and harmonies as a guide for artistic expression for all the instruments that accompany him (winds, bass guitar, drums, and percussion).

The result is free-spirited music, full of infectious and joyful energy, both audacious and respectful of tradition.
